Residual Waste (PA)

Residual Waste (PA)

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) regulates nonhazardous industrial waste as Residual Waste. Each type of residual waste that a facility generates is considered a residual waste stream and may be reportable.

If a facility generates more than 13 tons of total residual waste in one year, it needs to file a comprehensive report before March 1 biennially. A chemical waste analysis is also required for each waste stream. If the facility generates less than 13 tons, only file a simple form needs to be filed with PADEP.

A Source Reduction Strategy (SRS) is also required to be kept at the generating site if the facility produces more than 13 tons of residual waste per year. The SRS is a facilities plan to reduce the amount of residual waste generated. The SRS is required to be updated once every five years.
